Stephen Meyer and Eric Metaxas talked about the Scopes Trial anniversary today and about the debate about Darwin’s Doubt. You can hear their conversation now in podcast form. No radio host is more thoughtful, or funnier, than Metaxas.
As Eric points out, the Scopes Trial is “ground zero” for the culture war.
Dr. Meyer was on the Michael Medved Show today as well and discussed our new book documenting the debate about his book, Debating Darwin’s Doubt: A Scientific Controversy That Can No Longer Be Denied. Hosted by Medved, Dr. Meyer debated ID critic Alex Berezow, who runs the always lively Real Clear Science site. What was interesting is that Berezow, a biologist who identifies as a Christian, seemed to think he was offering a significant challenge to Meyer by citing Sren Kierkegaard on the “soul-deadening” effects of trying to prove God.
The problem is that ID doesn’t seek to “prove” the existence of God. It lets the scientific evidence speak for itself. It’s unclear why anyone, Christian or Jew, atheist or agnostic, would want to forestall weighing that evidence for himself by appealing to a philosopher. Especially a philosopher who died four years before Darwin published the Origin of Species.
That’s not Metaxas’s style, though. Listen now by going here for the podcast!
