We know how to build a simple Ford Model T car. Now let’s build a factory inside this car, so that it can produce Model T cars automatically.
Extremely improbable events must be macroscopically (simply) describable to be forbidden.
All that is left is to add a factory to the Cornell device so it can produce for itself the molecubes that humans keep building and feeding them.
We still are not close to designing any self-replicating machine. That is still pure science fiction.
That Darwinism seems even superficially plausible depends completely on the ability of living things to reproduce themselves without significant degradation.
